Sophia Musso Post #1

Yesterday I started my internship shadowing Dr. Joaquin Wong, a pediatric neurologist at Children's Hospital. I love this job so far. Today and yesterday I saw Dr. Wong treat patients with muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, Down syndrome, and Tourette's. Working with children was something I was apprehensive about before this internship, but I actually love it. The kids are so happy and adorable. I get to see the tests he performs on the patients to test their muscle strength and the complex computer system the hospital uses to keep track of everything. Since Dr. Wong is bilingual, some of the appointments are in Spanish, and I get to practice my Spanish a little. I also learned about complex genetic testing that are done to many of the patients seen in his department. Dr. Wong also showed me a few brain scans of patients and explained them to me before we saw them so I could have a better understanding of their conditions.

  1. Wow! You are really getting to see a wide range of medical conditions. It's good to hear that you're enjoying working with kids despite your apprehension.
