Griff Thomas Post #2

The past few days have been tedious. I have been repeating the same experiment from Tuesday which is replacing the food for the lung cells and taking samples to count the cells. This part of the research seems a little less interesting to me. However, This is just the first step in the big experiment though. I have to grow and nurture the cells, and when I have enough cells, I will put them into a device that reads the electricity between each cell. This data helps research how to solve the problem of fluid filling into the lungs. Thursday was my favorite part about the internship so far. I was able to listen to a PhD student talk about using nano-drippings to get rid of tumors. He said that he injects these tiny droppings into the bloodstream. Then they enlarge them into bubbles near the tumor using an ultrasound. The bubbles will block the tumor from getting nutrients which makes it die. The student also talked about how science is based on trial and error, and there is a lot of error. He said scientists have to have thick skin and stick with their research. I really enjoyed hearing him talk about his research, and I am excited for what is to come in the next week.
