Brandon Roth #2

After working a few days under Mr. Skip Chatelain, I’ve learned more than I thought I possibly could in 2 weeks.  As the first couple days progressed, I worked along side Mr. Skip working on clients’ finacial portfolios and managing accounts.  He had taught me the ins and outs of this business including instructions on how to obtain new clients as well as how to keep them for decades to come.  Mr. Skip showed much trust in me as he assigned me to research stocks and evaluate whether or not he should invest for a client.  By doing this, he guided me into what to look for and how to tell if a stock will digress or progress.  In addition to this, he has also taught me how politics can affect the way the stock market changes.  Along side Mr. Skip, was another employee (Newman Grad) who focused on the bond trading side of the business, Mr. Chris.  Aside from the equity market, there is a whole other market called the bond market.  For the past couple of days, I have been working with Mr. Chris and have learned just how essential bonds are to businesses and clients much like stocks.  Mr. Chris has taught me just about everything I could possibly hear about the bond market.  I’ve learned much about how yield interest can affect the price of a bond along with how the maturity comes into play while thinking long term.  Through my first week with Dorsey and Company, I am certain that I chose the right business to intern with and am looking forward to week 2.
