Jack Fleishmann...Blog #1

Today I started my internship with Joe Brinz at Engineering Inspection Services (EIS).  Joe is the owner and operator of the company.  He started it in 1998.  EIS specializes in plant engineering, meaning they design the ins and outs of how the pipes should be constructed.  Along with the design of pipes, they do failure analysis.  In the picture above, I am working on a program called Caesar.  With this program, I was able to create a 3D version of pipes based off of plans for Exxon Mobile.  I chose to do my internship here with Mr. Brinz because I like the idea of engineering.  Although, I never knew that what his company does is considered engineering.  Like many, I thought there were only a few types of engineers: mechanical, electrical, civil, and chemical.  But, what I learned today was that most of the workers in his office are stress engineers; meaning they study forces, and how they act on specific materials.  Another cool thing I learned today is that every material has flexibility, even metal.

  1. Great post, Jack. Creating a 3D image from Exxon plans is pretty cool for the first day. I didn't know about stress engineering, either. Thanks for the info.
