Elise Lafleur Post #1

These past few days, I have started my senior internship at Ogden Museum of Southern Arts. I chose this internship because it is one of my favorite museums in the area, and I plan on studying Anthropology which could potentially lead me to a career working at a place like Ogden. I wanted to know what it was like working at a museum, and this was a perfect opportunity for that. The first day I arrived, I learned that a big silent auction to raise money for Ogden called The Magnolia Ball is coming up, and that they are short staffed on their organizational team. So, I was quickly put to work helping them. I met with a member of the communications department, Mrs. Crosson, and I have thoroughly enjoyed working under her as she has been extremely helpful. Though it wasn’t the internship I was expecting, it has been both educational and entertaining so far. I’ve learned practical skills, such as how to politely notify artists and vendors for the event that they are late in turning in their donated pieces; and some less common knowledge, such as if you have an uncommon last name and you fill out a form illegibly, you will either be miss-accounted for or find yourself deeply resented by the communications office intern. Overall, the first couple days interning for Ogden has been very informative and fun.

  1. I'm so glad this internship worked out. Sounds like you're learning many facets of museum life. I love the Ogden!
