The second day I was able to go with one of the surveyors out on the river to watch a vessel hold inspection. This is another service that RMG provides to their customers. The customer will hire RMG to inspect the vessel holds before loading to make sure that there is no leftover cargo in the holds from previous shipment. Here are some pictures taken at Buck Kreihs, New Orleans. We inspected the holds of a vessel headed to Puerto Rico which will load Long Grain Rough Rice, Soybean Meal, DDGS and Wheat. We found the vessel holds clean and ready to load. It was very interesting to see in person how it all works. Before going out on the river we had to sit in on a safety meeting. I learned how important it is to have those safety meetings once I witnessed how dangerous it can be out on the river especially climbing up the ladder onto the vessel.
