Alec Ricci Post #1

On Monday Morning, I started my internship at the Louisiana Supreme Court under the guidance of Judge Lobrano and her associates. Upon arriving to the court house I was given my internship access card and a full tour of the facility. Prior to this internship, I had never stepped foot within the court house. The tour showed me the two courtrooms, all their details, and I was given a thorough explanation of how the judges and representatives are elected to seats within the court system. The tour also showed me the library which held an impressive collection of law books dating back to the late 18th century that many of the lawyers and judges use as a guide throughout their career. While I was not allowed to take photos of many of the rooms I saw, I gained new insight and appreciation to the court system and how its all conducted. After the tour, I was seated at my desk and was given a few files on past court cases that Judge Lobrano believed would be able to give me more details of court processing of cases. For my first two days of the internship, I spent my time researching cases ranging from land disputes to more serious crimes. While my internship has only just begun, I can safely say that the information I have gained on the court system has been invaluable and I hope to continue this internship in greater depth. I plan to attend an actual court hearing next week and I am even considering continuing the internship into the summer.
