During my internship, this weekend, I've had lots of exciting assignments. Friday morning, I went to The Global Wildlife Conservation Center. It was an "undercover" assignment, to avoid getting special treatment because the story is about some allegations of mistreatment of their animals. After that, I went to the UNO graduation and shot that, mostly, by myself. The photo editor liked them, so they're published on the website now! Lastly, we went to Bayou Boogaloo and Max, the photographer I was shadowing, taught me how to get names and context for lifestyle photos. Since he showed me the basics of lifestyle photos, he sent me to complete an assignment by myself the next day. My job was to shoot the high school reunion of a class who graduated on D-day. The ladies there were all either 93 or 94, and they were kind and easy-going on me. Sunday I went to Tyrann Mathieu's training camp for local kids, ages 7-17. The power to the Saint's Training Facility, which is where the boot camp took place, was knocked out in the storm, which made it hard to take pictures because it was so dark. Today, Monday, I came in to edit all the photos from the weekend and also to learn how to write photo captions, since I never had to for The Halo. So far, this internship has been great. Sophomore year, I was sure I wanted to be a photojournalist, but during senior year, I slowly started to dislike it and pretty much had my mind made up that I'd go into fine arts photography. However, this internship has re-sparked my love of photojournalism and is giving fine arts photography a run for its money. I'm so grateful for the opportunities to take pictures at events and places I otherwise wouldn't have been able to, or thought to, bring a camera.
Clara, exciting is right! How fun that you got to document all these events. Your photos on UNO's website are fantastic. I love to hear that your interest in photo-journalism has been rekindled.
