Benjamin Bone Post #2

Today for my internship, I spent the day with Dr. Wax, an orthopedic hand surgeon, working a table at the St. Pious X School Tennis Tournament. Dr Wax’s practice sponsored the event. He was there to promote his work, recruit new patients, and treat injured tennis players. We spent a majority of the time talking with future clients about their hand problems and handing out his business cards. We met lots of new people and made a bunch of friends. After eating lunch, we drove back to the West Bank and spent the rest of the day at the clinic seeing patients. Today wasn’t too exciting. We saw a lot of follow up patients who Dr. Wax performed surgery on. I spent a lot of time watching him take out stitches, give cortisone shots, and remove fluid from a man’s leg. I laughed when we filled up four tubes of this red/clear, gross fluid from his leg. It seemed to never run out! The patient said it felt much better after and it looked so much less swollen. After we were done in the room, I removed the unsanitary sheet off of cushioned table and replaced it with a fresh one. I feel like I am learning a lot about which symptoms match which problem and the typical ways to fix them. I really like what we have been doing. I am really looking forward to next week. Here is a picture of me and Dr. Wax at the fundraiser this morning.
