I am interning with Mrs. Kronenberg in the Lower School at Country Day. The students in my classroom are in the grades kindergarten, first grade, and second grade. Country day runs their lower school much different than St. Martin’s, which I found very interesting. The students have the same teacher and same class for 3 years straight, then they advance to third grade where they are combined with fourth graders.
I arrive at Country day around 7:30 every morning  and greet the kiddos as they come in the classroom. The students begin every morning with a morning meeting with the entire lower school. When they return to their classroom after the meeting they start off with math followed by reading. I forgot just how much free time we had in lower school because majority of the day is spent outside at recess because the kids have so much energy.
Mrs. Kronenberg is the science teacher for all k-2nd graders and her class recently grew chickens in an incubator and they just hatched last week! The kids love the little chicks so much, and it’s so fun to see how excited the kids get when I take the chickens out for them to pet! I’m enjoying my first couple days at Country Day so much already! Now back to changing wet Spider-Man underwear, and  tying shoes!
