Mollye Varon #3

I started my second week continuing my internship with Rachel Ramelli. I went to go see the garbage trucks for the French Quarter, and learned that they are specially sized. They are smaller than the residential trucks as a way to preserve historical value of the buildings and structure of the French Quarter. Those trucks are ran by Bio-diesel. I got to talk to the operations manager, Eddie, and the president of Best Environmental, David. He is a sub-contractor for Ramelli Group. They explained how the trucks have a compactor inside of them, which allows the trucks to hold more discarded trash. They also have separate trucks designated just for curbside recycling. These two types of household waste is brought to different places. One to the recycling center and the other goes to the landfill - Riverbirch, which we drove past to give me an idea of how far the trucks travel each day. They pick up residential garbage and debris in the following areas: French Quarter and downtown development district, city of Kenner, and parts of Jefferson Parish.
