Charlie Kaliszeski #2

In this picture my internship sponsor Ms. Cross and I went out to the St. Charles Parish area and handed out papers to people who were interested to volunteer for our organization. While going through the area, we went to the church in this picture. Ms. Cross told me they've always been a good contributor to our organization. She wasn't wrong, while I was there I met many nice local people who were more then interested to join. After recruiting more volunteers Ms. Cross took me to my first two patients. I was very nervous on first impressions but that soon changed when we got there. When we got to the first location she explained to me that part of showing service to these patients may include minor cleaning and rearranging of their belongings. That's what my first stop was. First we meet the couple, they were some of the nicest people I've ever met. What's most surprising is the fact that these people didn't seem to have the need for hospice care. When I first started, I had a mindset that the patients I'd be caring for would be those that you see on their deathbed. I couldn't have been more wrong. The three patients I've already met have been some of the funniest, nicest, and just energetic people I've met. After working here for a week I've been offered to stay as a volunteer once summer begins. I've accepted that offer now, and I'll be working here into the summer months because I genuinely care for these people, and the work that I'm doing.
