Aidan Bonano Blog Post #3
For this week we started the experiment we were breeding cells for the week before. The cells we were using were tested in a simulation used to represent a ventilator for the purpose of comparing the cells resilience to the ventilator. We had to insert the cells into a small well that also acts as a chip that we used to monitor the activity of the cells. Due to moving these cells to a smaller well we had less room to feed them, therefore, they needed to be fed every 8 hours. Due to this, we were required to go into the biomedical center at 1 a.m. to feed these cells for the experiment the next morning. it was interesting to see how different the building was when everyone was gone and showed us how demanding being in the research field is. the process to prepare for an experiment on such a scale as this takes many weeks and many tests to help the researchers understand what conditions are successful and satisfy their needs.
